Half time: Rho Class completes Midcourt
By: Caitlin Boyd
Half time! Friday’s midcourt marked the half way mark of pledging for the Rho Class. This semester has been flying by and it is unreal that my Pi Class will soon no longer be the Neo’s (newly crossed class) of AKPsi. Fortunately every pledge passed midcourt!
One of the best part of this midcourt was seeing the growth in the Rho class. Midcourt truly shows how the process opens you up as an individual, and gives you a voice. I remember that before my midcourt I was completely terrified that I would blank on all my information. To my surprise I was able to impress even myself by remembering all my information.
It is one of the greatest feelings, as a brother, to see the pledges that weren’t as open at first speak confidently and clear during their midcourt. Of course everyone has their hiccups, but this class really impressed me overall. The pledges were very prepared and I attribute a lot of that to the fact that as midcourt approached I began to see them bond. Pledging is not only about getting to know the current brothers but also learning about your pledge class. You learn from them just as equally as you do from the current brothers. Seeing the pledges studying together shows that they are learning to fully appreciate our process.
Overall good job Rho class! You’re almost there.

Deloitte– Work Styles
By: William Cotton Jr.
March 14th, 2016
Teamwork; one of the most important traits that a company should expect from its employees. Hence why I decided to check out what Deloitte’s definition. I definitely got more than what I bargained for.
After basic introductions, we filled out a small questionnaire to see what qualities best describe us. The results of those questionnaires were revealed to us after the “Lost at Sea” team building exercise. The point of the exercise was to figure out of 15 different items that would be most important if we were to be lost at sea. The point being to reveal our different social styles.
Based on a study by Dr. David Merrill, there are four different social styles: analytical, amiable, expressive and driver. Analyticals are the systematic workers that focus on the tasks on hand. Amiables, like me, are the people-oriented workers that include everyone in the group. Expressives are the visionaries. Drivers are the natural leaders. With that in mind, it is important to know what your particular social style is in order to continue to build on your strengths and improve upon your weakness. Once you do, then you can become a more effective team player by knowing your role in your groups and helping others realize their potential.
Big thanks to Deloitte and Beta Alpha Psi for this great event and I will be looking forward to more events like this one!

Induction: The Road To Brotherhood
By: Benny Truong, Vice President of Marketing
February 4th, 2016
After an amazing Rush Week, we had an overwhelming turn out for our interviews for the pledge process. The Brothers and I were thrilled with the turn out we had. After three days of interviews, 27 bids were handed out to the pledges that we felt had our values and beliefs. Most importantly, these 27 individuals have the determination to grow as individuals and professionals. It is thrilling to have 27 Pledges for our Spring Class. This will be the biggest Spring Class that Eta Rho has ever inducted.
After our Induction Ceremony, the Brothers and newly-inducted Pledges celebrated at Giordano’s. The night was a fun time full of conversations and delicious food. We all ate our fill of deep dish pizza, salad, and bread. It was truly an amazing Induction dinner.
Induction and Rush Week may be over, but everything is just beginning for our Pledges from the Rho Class. I invite everyone to continue to check this blog regularly as I and other Brothers regular share our experiences in Alpha Kappa Psi. Special thank you to David Ngo, our Master of Rituals, for planning an amazing dinner.
